Wedding DJ in Oldham
I live in Royton. Oldham weddings are not a territory I cover — they are the town where I've worked since 2008.
Home ground
Royton is about four miles from Oldham town centre and I’ve been based there the whole time I have been DJing. That has a practical value that is easy to undersell: there is no venue in this borough I’m learning about for the first time on the morning of your wedding.
I know which function rooms have a sound limiter and roughly where it’s set. I know which car parks won’t take a van, which venues want you in through a kitchen corridor, and which have a lift that is smaller than it looks in the brochure. When you tell me where you’re getting married, the conversation starts several steps further along than it otherwise would.
Oldham is really several places
A wedding in the town centre is a different night from one up in Saddleworth, and both are different again from a cricket club out towards Chadderton or Royton — Crompton Cricket Club has had me back more than once.
The Saddleworth villages — Uppermill, Delph, Dobcross, Greenfield — attract couples from well outside the borough because the setting is genuinely beautiful. They also have narrow approaches, limited parking and a fair number of rooms with beams low enough to change how lighting has to be rigged. None of that is a problem when it’s planned for.
Closer in, the hotel suites and social clubs around Oldham, Chadderton and Failsworth are more forgiving on access but often tighter on volume, with limiters fitted to keep neighbours content — The Shawside and Grains Bar Hotel both fall into that category. Same job, different preparation.
What the reviews come from
Most of the 226 reviews on my Google profile were left by people who got married within a few miles of here. Years in one place means a lot of guests have seen me at somebody else’s wedding first, which is where most of my bookings still come from.
